Kathryn Terry, an owner and founding partner of Terry & deGraauw Family Law is an esteemed Albuquerque Family Law attorney with over two decades of experience representing clients in various divorce and family law cases. She is highly respected in the legal community for her unwavering commitment to her clients’ best interests and her ability to achieve fair and lasting resolutions.

Kathryn serves as an adjunct professor at the University of New Mexico School of Law, where she has imparted decades of expertise in New Mexico’s property division laws, teaching Community Property to future lawyers for over a decade. Kathryn has developed and teaches the Collaborative Family Law class curriculum annually at the University of New Mexico School of Law. She is a past-President and current member of the New Mexico Collaborative Practice Group.

Kathryn’s approach to family law is marked by a deep commitment to ensuring children’s best interests are fully considered during family law proceedings. She represents parents in contested custody cases, and serves as a Guardian ad Litem, where she is appointed by the Court to be the child’s attorney. In addition to custody cases, she represents children taken into the state’s custody in abuse and neglect proceedings.

Kathryn is frequently appointed to serve as a Settlement Facilitator in family law cases, using her expertise to facilitate agreements and help parties develop creative solutions from a neutral perspective.

Education

Kathryn earned her Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University in New Orleans and her Juris Doctor from the University of New Mexico School of Law.

Kathryn is licensed to practice in both district and federal courts in New Mexico and was admitted to the family law bar of New Mexico in 2004.
