INITIAL CONSULTATION

Taking the first step

FAMILY LAW CONSULTATION PROCESS

When you contact Terry & deGraauw Family P.C., we begin by having you meet with one of our attorneys during a consultation. While friends and family may provide you with advice, a consultation with our legal team is the best way to understand your options for your divorce or family law matter. Although our office is located in Albuquerque, we represent clients across the state of New Mexico.

PREPARING FOR YOUR CONSULTATION

In preparation for your appointment, create a list of questions and issues that you would like to discuss with our lawyers. This may include questions about custody, property division and co-parenting. During your consultation, you can expect to discuss:

  • The various dispute resolution processes available in New Mexico family law and divorce cases.
  • Any matters pertaining to minor children.
  • The division of marital property, including assets and debts.
  • Both child support and spousal support.
  • Attorney’s fees and costs.

Since every family’s situation is different, your consultation allows our attorneys to understand the unique issues involved in your family law case. Your consultation is an opportunity to ask whatever questions you have about divorce, custody or other family law issues in New Mexico. During your consultation, our lawyers will propose ways to help you achieve your goals and move forward with a sound plan for your family’s future.

Everything discussed at your consultation is confidential and will not be repeated without your permission. With that in mind, be truthful and candid about the issues related to your family law case — it helps our lawyers give you the best advice possible relating to your case.

Sometimes our clients believe that there are no solutions to their legal problems, or they have unrealistic expectations for the outcome of their divorce. You can depend on our lawyers to answer your questions, provide creative solutions to your problems and help you understand what to expect before, during, and after the process.

We are family law specialists who understand New Mexico family laws and how to protect your rights.
